OKC-based Paycom continues expansion
Journal Record, The (Oklahoma City), Feb 25, 2009 by Kelley Chambers
Chad Richison expects to stay plenty busy in 2009. While layoffs and bankruptcies abound, Richison said he will increase his work force by nearly 20 percent before the first leaves turn orange in autumn.
His Oklahoma City-based payroll company, Paycom, has expanded into 12 markets and Richison has his eye on taking the 10-year-old company public – eventually.
Paycom offers Web-based payroll and human resource services. The company has offices in Dallas, Denver and Chicago, and has added Tampa, Fla.; Austin, Texas; Houston; Charlotte, N.C.; and Phoenix. Richison said the company had some business in those areas and opened offices with its existing local managers.
There are about 130 Paycom employees in Oklahoma City and 250 nationwide. Richison said by the end of the summer he plans to have 150 Oklahoma City employees and 300 company-wide.
“We’ve been growing at a pretty steady pace for three or four years,” he said.
Roy Williams, president and CEO of the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber, said many companies are weathering the storm and even prospering in Oklahoma City where new jobs are still being added.
“We find a number of companies here that are adding 10, 100 or a couple of hundred,” he said.
Williams said some companies with a national presence, like Paycom, are also doing well.
“It’s a reflection of some of the positive economic activity here but sometimes it’s a reflection of their national business,” he said.
In 2009 Williams said large companies in Oklahoma City may add a few jobs, but he expects to see growth at smaller companies like Richison’s.
Richison said Paycom adds 300 to 400 new accounts each month, primarily from small to medium-sized companies with anywhere from 30 to about 4,000 employees.
But much of the new business is not from companies new to outsourcing their payroll. Richison said his staff has mostly lured business from away competitors, including industry giant Automatic Data Processing Inc.
In 2007 Richison sold a majority share of the privately held company to private equity investment firm Carson, Anderson & Stowe. That left Paycom debt-free

What you spend though, is less
What you spend though, is less important than the amount of time you spend and discipline you follow actually using the contact management system.
When buying a contact management system, the off-the-shelf packages are, for the most part, pretty good. There are two contact management systems that get a lot of attention: ACT and Goldmine.
Act sells for a little over $230, provides links to PDAs and has an online version.
Goldmine is the second most popular contact management system with many of the same features at a price point of approximately $200.
Other notable contact management systems are Maximizer, which is similar to Goldmine, and Sales Force, which has a free online service that is very limited or you can upgrade to the Team Edition for $1000 per year.
Key features to look for in most of the modern contact management systems are:
Import and export capability from all the popular Microsoft formats – Word,
Excel, Outlook
Links to PDAs
Links to accounting software
More robust client server online solutions
Bottom Line on Contact Management Systems
Contact management systems are great – but they are only great if you actually use them.

Woman next top defender?
0 Comments | Inland Valley Daily Bulletin, Mar 13, 2006 | by Rod Leveque
SAN BERNARDINO – The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors could appoint the first woman ever to head the county Public Defender’s Office as soon as today., Sources familiar with the search say the most likely candidate is Doreen Boxer, 40, a criminal defense attorney from Orange County who has spent the past several years specializing in capital murder cases. “I hope this comes to pass,” Boxer said Monday. “I’m very excited about the opportunity.”
The Public Defender’s Office provides legal representation for accused criminals who cannot afford to hire their own lawyers.
Unlike the district attorney, which is an elected position, the public defender is appointed by the Board of Supervisors.
As the top public defender, Boxer would manage a budget of almost $24 million and supervise a staff of nearly 200 people.
County supervisors will consider hiring her during a 9 a.m. closed session meeting today.
She would replace Gerald Farber, who has held the job on an interim basis for the past year. Farber replaced John Roth, who resigned under pressure in February 2005 after he hired an attorney with a criminal record to his staff.
Boxer, a lawyer since 1989, works as an associate defender in Orange County, where she is appointed by the court to represent defendants in murder cases.
She teaches criminal procedure at Pacific West College of Law in Orange, has worked as a commentator on the Court TV television network and has written two books on law, the most recent of which is set to be released next month.

Having a convenient gas BBQ starts the revolution of barbecue fun. Having a barbecue can be the highlight of any summer day, but consider the difference it will make if you’re using your convenient propane gas BBQ on your favorite beach front!
Barbecues are generally connected with big heavy things that get taken out of storage every single summer and sit in your garden. As the American economy struggles, people are more interested than ever in new ways to save money . To help individuals get the most for their hard earned dollars, the creators of the Together Rx Access prescription savings program are launching TogetherONE, an online savings community. TogetherONE, which is free and open to everyone, encourages communication among community members who can share tips on how to make the most of a budget, find new uses for household items, and learn ways to save on prescription medicines, groceries and other items they may need for a healthy life.
Visitors to TogetherONE.com can search for savings offers and coupons by region, read budgeting tips, and share savings ideas that range from planning a fun, affordable night with the family to celebrating a birthday with a party that won’t break the bank.
“Over the past five years, we have spoken with countless individuals about Together Rx Access. These hardworking Americans — in addition to expressing a need for prescription savings — have voiced an interest in other programs or options to help them make ends meet and improve their health and quality of life,” shared Roba Whiteley, executive director, Together Rx Access. “For this reason, we see tremendous value in expanding the savings conversation beyond prescription medicines to other aspects of daily living. By creating the TogetherONE online community, we are connecting people who share a desire to save money, help others, and live better, healthier lives.”
TogetherONE makes it easy for individuals to find savings information for all of their needs — groceries, health, entertainment and lifestyle — all in one place. In the beginning of the process
In the beginning of the process the floor will look smeared and dull. Make two to three passes with the high speed machine and the shine will return.
A secret to remember is to use a minimum amount of solution on the floor – more isn’t better. Wherever you see a black mark, spray that area lightly. The real trick to spray buffing is not letting the solution dry out; buffing must be done while your solution is still moist.
Do not leave the machine in one place for too long or the floor finish will burn. Remember, you are using a 1500-2500 rpm machine so if you keep it in one place you can leave a ring from the pad, and will have to scrub/recoat in order to repair the ring. Also watch for high spots on the floor because if you’re using an aggressive pad you can remove finish very quickly.

A report from The
A report from The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health in Morgantown, West Virginia shows that the shorter the rest during an interval, the longer it takes to recover (
Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise
, August 2005).
If you are a regular exerciser, you probably have already noticed this in your own body. Runners may take an interval workout of running ten quarter miles averaging 65 seconds each, with a 110 yard jog lasting three minutes between each hard run. If they shorten their recoveries to two minutes, they tire earlier, their muscles feel more sore afterwards, and it takes them longer to recover.

“Mama, save me!” My six year
“Mama, save me!”
My six year old son jumped into my arms as a horrendous crash of thunder and a bolt lightening sent a fireball rolling across the ground toward where we were. He was terrified, and truth to tell, so was I. But, I had no arms to jump into. I had no one to cling to -
Except God.
Immediately I cried out, “Lord, save us!” And, just like my small son who had jumped for safety to my arms, I jumped into the arms of God, spiritually speaking. And you know what happened next? The fireball disintegrated before my eyes, the wind calmed, the thunder ceased. It was miraculous.
It was God taking care of His children.
That incident reminded me of the time when Jesus was asleep in the boat while a storm raged on Galilee. “Don’t you care if we perish?” his friends asked, awaking him.

Like you, I have major
Like you, I have major responsibilities.
But if I think about them all the time, I?ll go nuts, feeling overwhelmed.
It?s far better, I?ve found, to simply do what is before me to do, whether it is working on some modest aspect of a large initiative or even doing what may seem to others to be trifling.
For example, in addition to taking care of my dog, and I?ll be the first to admit he and I should spend more quality time together, I feed a small family of feral cats.
This is the third generation I?ve taken care of, so like koi fish, I relax by studying their colors and movements as they feed at one of the three small bowls that I?ve put out for them.
Seeing them enjoy the ?gourmet? fare really calms me down, putting many things into perspective.
