Cheap Eats

Don’t call the Pomegranate an Arab restaurant.

It’s Persian, Iranian if you will, and after you get past the almost-obligatory hummus appetizer, its menu is full of things you don’t see much around Buffalo.

Grilled meats are the main event at the Pomegranate, which opened in a brand-new Transit Road building earlier this year.

Numerous types and flavors of beef, chicken and lamb are slipped onto flat metal skewers before being grilled and served, usually served with a choice of basmati rice pilafs or pita bread, and a charred tomato. (Several kabobs are also offered as sandwiches, in pita bread, with salad and yogurt sauce, from $5.99 to $6.99.)

We ordered at the counter, trying to cover as many kabob angles as possible. When the trays were ready, we worked our way around, comparing the tastiest bits. Each kabob order included two skewers of meat, enough for a normal adult appetite
